Rooting brings out what all new things with our device is only known to those who have rooted their device and are using it. There are many adventurous people who do not mind losing the warranty because of rooting as when they think of the bounty which rooting offers, warranty becomes almost a negligible act. There are many manufacturers which ship their Android devices with locked bootloaders and Motorola’s Moto G is one of them. A device with locked bootloader mostly means that before rooting such devices you will also have to unlock the bootloader. Rooting different phones have different procedures and in this article we are going to teach you how to root your Motorola Moto G by unlocking the bootloader.
Warning – Unlocking bootloader means loss of phone’s warranty so, your device’s warranty will be voided if you follow the instructions of this page.
Step 1: You should fully backup your Android device before rooting it. Backup all your SMS, Backup/Export Contacts, Backup APN settings. You can take help from our article on Tutorial for creating backup of Android device without root access.
Step 2: You should Backup all apps on your device, unrooted users can follow this method procedure to backup apps. If you have already rooted your device then use Titanium to Backup and restore apps and cache data.

Step 4: There should be 50% or more amount of battery juice on your device. To know how much charge your device is having you can use our tutorial on how to get battery percentage on Status bar.
Step 5: You should disable security apps and programs like Antivirus and Firewall on your Android device as they may interrupt the procedure.
How to unlock bootloader of Moto G
Step 1 – Visit Motorola’s website for instructions and the necessary drivers.
Step 3 – Turn off your Smartphone and put it in fast boot mode by holding down the volume down and power buttons simultaneously. After this wait a few seconds, then let the power button and the volume button go again.
Step 4 – Connect the Smartphone via USB to your PC and navigate to the folder where you have unzipped the ADB tools.
Step 5 – Hold down the shift key and click with the right mouse button on an empty spot in Windows Explorer. Select “Command Prompt open here” and give the following command and press enter:
- fastboot oem get_unlock_data
Step 6 – After you do the above process a string will appear with extra five lines added, copy the character sequence by clicking on the right button of your mouse in the prompt, choose “Select” and then select the highlighted five lines.
Step 7 – Press enter key now to copy the text to the clipboard and then paste it into the input window on the Motorola website but ensure that there are no spaces and “(boot loader)” is not copied.
Step 8 – Click on “Can my device be unlocked?”, and then scroll to the bottom of the page.
Step 9 – Put a tick in the “I Agree” box and click on “Request Unlock Key” and you should have received a code by email now so copy it to the clipboard and then go back to the prompt and remember if the Moto G is still connected to the PC, you can directly input the following command:
- fastboot oem unlock [here you will enter the 20 character long code with the right button of your mouse.]
Step 10 – Now your Moto G will start automatically and the bootloader is unlocked.
How to Root Moto G
Step 1 – Visit the MoDaCo forum as there are the instructions and the necessary software.
Step 2 – Download the Superboot.zip to your PC and unzip it to any location and turn off your Moto of G and put it in bootloader mode by simultaneously pressing the power and the volume down buttons again.
Step 3 – Connect your Smartphone to PC and navigate to the Superboot folder and execute the file superboot-windows.bat with a double click.
Step 4 – The Moto G will restart and now your Smartphone has been successfully rooted.
