Sony Xperia U was a great phone from legendary phone manufacturer Sony. They have done pretty well with this phone and created user base. This is a quality Android phone equipped with latest Android OS and specs. We have already told you about how to unlock Sony Xperia U bootloader and the rooting part is very similar to rooting Xperia Sola. Both, just need to flash an Advanced Rooted stock kernel using fastboot command. We have created a small guide to help you with rooting your Xperia U easily.

What to do before installing ROM or Rooting your device?
Step 1: We always suggest a full backup of your Android device before you go forrooting or installing custom ROM. Backup all your SMS, Backup/Export Contacts,Backup APN settings. You can also follow our Tutorial on creating backup of Android device without root access.
Step 2: You should also Backup all apps, if you have not rooted your device yet then follow this procedure to backup apps. If you have a rooted device then useTitanium to Backup and restore apps and cache data.
Step 3: Enable USB debugging on your device, Go to settings>>Developer options and check the USB debug box. If you are not able to get it check our detailed guide on enabling USB debugging on Jelly Bean, IceCream Sandwich and Gingerbread.
Step 4: Always check your battery before performing rooting procedure orinstalling ROM.If you have low battery status then you may face interruption while the procedure and it may brick your device. Check our tutorial on how to get battery percentage on Status bar.
Step 5: If you are going to install Custom ROM then it’s better to create a fullNandroid Backup of your device. You can also use Custom recovery to create Nandroid backup.
Step 6: We would also suggest disabling security apps and programs like Antivirusand Firewall on your Android device as it may interrupt the procedure.
How to Install Advanced Stock kernel [Root] on Sony Xperia U
Step 1. First thing you need to do is to download the Kernel.elf file from the above link to your Windows based Computer. Then, you need to place this downloaded file along with fastboot binaries i.e. fastboot.exe file in a same folder.
Step 2. Then, switch off your Sony Xperia U and reboot it in a fastboot mode by pressing and holding Power button and Volume button simultaneously.
Step 3. When it gets into a fastboot mode. Then, run the command prompt on your Computer.
Step 4. You must type the command below to flash the kernel.elf on your Sony Xperia U –
fastboot flash boot kernel.elf
Step 5. When the command gets processed successfully. Then, you should reboot your Sony Xperia U and start it normally to enjoy the kernel.
