Samsung Galaxy W I8150 was launched a year ago with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread. I think that Samsung has forgot this device as there is no update since March 2012. They just added a Value pack update to Galaxy W with some bugs fixes and update to Android 2.3.6. XDA developers member have created a ICS based RebelROM for Galaxy W that is working very stable and fast on the phone. If you want to update to ICS then you will need to root your device and install CWM recovery. I have created a detailed tutorial that will help you to root your Galaxy W. We will be soon bringing a post on Custom Recovery for Galaxy W and ICS custom ROM for Galaxy W.
- First of all you need to create the backup of the data which you will find as a needful. We will be helping you by providing a list of data, which you must take backup – SMS, Contacts (backup in SD card), Apps (through ASTRO File Manager), Bookmarks, Call Logs, Images, Videos, Music, APN and MMS Settings, etc.
- Disable the anti-virus or firewall from your Galaxy W i8150 to avoid interruption during the process.
- Minimum 80% of battery life is required to complete this rooting process successfully.
- You must enable the USB Debugging option on your Galaxy W device just by following the path ‘Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging’. When you get there, check the USB debugging option. Also, navigate to the path ‘Settings > Applications’ and check Unknown sources.
How to Root your Samsung Galaxy W i8150:
Method 1: Using One Click Root Method
Step 1. Download the ‘DooMLoRD_v3_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip’ file for your Windows Computer from here.
Step 2. Once you complete downloading the zip file, extract the same to a single folder in your Computer. Where you will find runme.bat file.
Step 3. Then, double-click the runme.bat file to root your Samsung W i8150.
Step 4. When it starts the rooting process, it will take 2-3 minutes to complete.
Step 5. Then turn off your device and restart it again so that the package will show the desired result.
Method 2: Using Recovery Mode
Step 1. Download the update.zip file for applying the rooting on your Galaxy W i8150 from here.
Step 2. Connect your Galaxy W to your Computer via USB data cable and place the downloaded zip file to the root of the SD card.
Step 3. Then, Turn off your Galaxy W to boot into the ClockworkMod recovery mode by holding and pressing Volume Up + Home + Power button simultaneously until you see the Android with Box on the screen. Then, release the Volume Up + Home + Menu button.
Step 4. To wipe all your cache data from the phone you need to select ‘Wipe data/factory reset’ and again select ‘Wipe Cache partition’.
Step 5. Then, navigate to ‘install zip from SD card > choose zip from sdcard’ to select ‘update.zip’ file from the SD card.
Step 6. This process may take few minutes to complete. After that select the ‘reboot system now’ to restart your Galaxy W device.
Congratulation! You have now successfully rooted your Samsung Galaxy W i8150.
