HTC Vivid users can now rejoice as they can now root their device, who are on official Ice Cream Sandwich update. All this have been possible by XDA developer member cruzin_cruzin. One of the most common problems among rooted phones and tablets has to be flashing official firmware releases. In almost all cases, flashing firmware updates also tend to lose previous root access. Thankfully, cruzin_cruzing has provided a way for owners of the HTC Vivid to root their phones and install ClockworkMod Recovery after upgrading to Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich and HTC Sense 3.6. Below we have summed up in simple steps on how you can root your phone, so follow the article carefully.

- Please try the methods and steps mentioned in this article only on HTC Vivid.
- Before proceeding with this article you must have unlocked the Bootloader of your HTC Vivid.
- Ensure that there is at least 70% charge with your device, so that there will be no Power interruption during the process.
- You need to backup all essential data’s on your phone, to assure that there will be no data loss during the process.
- Disable all Security programs like Firewall and Antivirus from your computer and uninstall the same from your phone, as these security programs generally tend to interrupt the process.
- Enable USB Debugging in your HTC Vivid from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. The option of USB Debugging should be ticked.
Download HTC Drivers, Fastboot, Superuser-3.0.7 and ClockworkMod Recovery from here to your computer. Extract all the files, install HTC Drivers on your computer and copy the Superuser-3.0.7.zip file on the root directory of your phones SD card.
Procedure to root HTC Vivid and install CWM Recovery:
Step1: Place the extracted Fastboot.zip files inside a folder and name that folder as “Fastboot” for convenience. You will acquire following four files:
Step2: Now, extract the PH39IMG.zip file using any extracting software such as 7-Zip or WinZip. You should be able to extract a file called recovery.img. Copy the extracted recovery.img file into the Fastboot folder. You should have five files inside the Fastboot folder by now.
Step3: Reboot your phone so as to enter it in Bootloader Mode. To do so, pres and hold t he Volume Down + Power buttons together for few seconds until the screen turns on.
Step4: Now, from the Bootloader Menu, select “Fastboot”.
Step5: Connect your phone to the PC via original USB cable i.e the cable that came with it and you should see “FASTBOOT USB” on your phone.
Step6: Now, on your Windows PC open the command prompt and navigate to the Fastboot folder.
Step7: Inside the command prompt window, type the command fastboot devices to check that ADB/Fastboot properly detects your phone.
Step8: Now, enter the written below to flash the recovery.img on your phone:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Step9: If you are successful, you will get a “Finished/Okay” message once the recovery image has been flashed. Select “BOOTLOADER” on your phone to go back to the main bootloader menu. Select “Recovery” to boot your phone into ClockworkMod Recovery.
Step10: Now, select “install zip from sdcard” then select “choose zip from sdcard” and then choose the “Superuser-3.0.7.zip” from the SD card you’ve placed.
Step11: When the installation process has completed, select “++++Go Back++++” and then select “reboot system now” to reboot your phone.
