Step 1: First of all you need to put your Galaxy Note into downloading mode and hold down Volume Down and Power button together for few seconds.
Step 2: When your phone reset, keep holding down the Volume Down button but let go of the Power button. When you see warning screen below, hit the Volume Up button to enter in the download mode
Step 3: Now, connect a micro-USB cable from your phone to your Windows computer.
Step 4: Make sure that your phone shows up as ‘Samsung Mobile USB CDC Composite Device’ under Device Manager. If not, install Samsung Kies.
Step 5: Download ATTGalaxyNoteRootICS.zip and unzip it into a folder. There you will find four files. Double-click on odin3v1.85.exe file to run it.
Step 6: Then, you look into the ODIN program which come up with a yellow highlighted COM. This means you are ready to proceed.
Step 7: Choose PDA and choose the file ‘odin_ni717_cwm_recovery_b4.tar’.
Step 8: Now, you have to click on start button and this will start flashing the Clockworkmod Recovery on your Galaxy Note.
Step 9: Then, place the Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip file to the root of the internal storage or SD card of your Galaxy Note. After that you must reboot into Clockworkmod Recovery by Hold down Volume Up, Volume Down, and Power button together for about 10 seconds.

Step 11: Select “choose zip from sdcard” or “choose zip from internal sdcard” to flash the “Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip”. Then click on the yes button to confirm.
Step 12: This process will root your phone by installing SU binaries and Super User app (which allows apps to make use of root). If you get any kind of errors at this point, don’t worry – simply repeat the Steps 10 and Step 11 twice more and reboot. You will still get root.
Step 13: Finally, reboot your device to see your rooted Galaxy Note SGH-i717 with Super User app.
