It is a typical plastic build and all of the standard ports and has a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S3 CPU, a full gig of RAM, Adreno 220 GPU, 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 16GB internal storage (expandable up to 48GB), 5MP rear shooter with 720p HD capture and a VGA front-facing camera for video chat. But, as you all know that until you have the full fledged access over your phone it is worthless. therefore, in this article we have summed up for you in simple steps on how to root your device. Rooting of your device enable you to try additional features i.e. try various custom ROM’s and kernels released periodically. Some of the custom ROM’s available for this device have reported to be working fine, you can try those. all you need is to first root you device. Therein, you will have to install ClockworkMod recovery on it. CWM Recovery will allow to flash custom ROM’s/kernels, create backup of existing important data. What to do before installing ROM or Rooting your device?
Step 1: We always suggest a full backup of your Android device before you go for rooting or installing custom ROM. Backup all your SMS, Backup/Export Contacts, Backup APN settings. You can also follow our Tutorial on creating backup of Android device without root access.
Step 2: You should also Backup all apps, if you have not rooted your device yet then follow this procedure to backup apps. If you have a rooted device then use Titanium to Backup and restore apps and cache data.
Step 3: Enable USB debugging on your device, Go to settings>>Developer options and check the USB debug box. If you are not able to get it check our detailed guide on enabling USB debugging on Jelly Bean, IceCream Sandwich and Gingerbread.
Step 4: Always check your battery before performing rooting procedure or installing ROM.If you have low battery status then you may face interruption while the procedure and it may brick your device. Check our tutorial on how to get battery percentage on Status bar.
Step 5: If you are going to install Custom ROM then it’s better to create a full Nandroid Backup of your device. You can also use Custom recovery to create Nandroid backup.
Step 6: We would also suggest disabling security apps and programs like Antivirus and Firewall on your Android device as it may interrupt the procedure.
I am sure that if you take care of above mentioned steps carefully then there is lot less chance of issues. If you face any issues with ROM then you can revert back to previous Nandroid Backup. Also you have all SMS, settings and apps data with you that can be restored anytime.
Download Root Boot Image, ClockworkMod Recovery Image and Fastboot from here to your computer. Download and place the Root Boot Image file in the ADB folder. As well as, extract CWM Recovery Image and Fastboot files onto your desktop.
Procedure to Root and Install ClockworkMod Recovery on Pantech Burst:
Step 1: First of all, connect your phone to the PC via original USB cable i.e. the cable that came with it.
Step 2: Next, open Command Prompt Window in the ADB folder.
Step 3: Now, type the commands that follows in the Command Prompt Window:
adb reboot bootloader
Step 4: By now your phone will have been rebooted into the bootloader mode.
Step 5: Once again type the commands that follows in the command prompt window:
fastboot boot prestoroot.img
Step 6: Wait uptill the process to root your phone, as soon as your phone is rooted it will reboot automatically.
Step 7: Now, for installing CWM Recovery on your phone oncwe again connect to the PC if you’ve disconnected it after rooting.
Step 8: Next, open command prompt window onto your desktop and type the commands that follows:
adb reboot bootloader
Step 9: By now your device will be rebooted into bootloader mode.
Step 10: As soon as your device has rebooted inot the bootlaoder mode, type the commands that follows:
fastboot flash recovery cwm-184.108.40.206-presto.img
Step 11: The above command will install CWM recovery onto your device and will reboot it.
