Samsung Captivate i897 has emerged to be second Single core processor driven device to get the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Firmware. It seems like Developers are getting too fast and more 10-12 devices are expected to get ported Jelly Bean firmware in next 2-3 days. We are expecting that Galaxy Ace, Galaxy S Advance, Galaxy Ace Duos are the next devices that will be getting the Jelly Bean firmware. Right now, we are here to talk about Jelly Bean ROM released for Samsung Captivate, we have created a detailed tutorial that will guide you through the process.

Compatibility: This is only meant for Samsung Captivate i897 and is not compatible with any other device or variant. To check the device’s model you need to follow the path Settings > About phone.

- The process we are discussing here will wipe all the data, apps as well as settings from your Samsung device. So, backup all your important data such as Contacts, SMS, Call Logs, Bookmarks, APN and MMS settings, etc.
- Here is the path you need to follow in order to enable the USB Debugging option on your Samsung Captivate i897 – ‘Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging’.
- Minimum battery life needed to accomplish this update is 60%. Below this battery level won’t be sufficient for this process.
- All Security suites such as anti-virus or firewall must be disabled from your Samsung Captivate i897 and also from your Computer to avoid interruption.
How to Install Android 4.1 Jelly Bean CyanogenMOd 10 ROM on Samsung Captivate i897
Step 1. Remember if your SIM card lock is already set earlier, than you need to remove it. For that you need to follow the path ‘Settings > Location and Security > Sim card lock > (uncheck the) checkbox should be clear’.
Step 2. Then, you need to download the latest ROM from the official development page.
Step 3. After that, you may need to download the Google Apps package. This will be helpful in installing Market, Gmail and other packages which you won’t find in this ROM.
Step 4. Also you need to download the kernel, required to boot the ROM.
Step 5. After the completion of download, place all three downloaded zip file to the SD card and turn off your device.
Step 6. Then, you need to boot it into ClockworkMod recovery by pressing and holding the Volume Up + Volume Down + power button simultaneously. When the screen turns on and it enters into the recovery, leave the buttons.
Step 7. In order to wipe up all the data from your phone you need to select ‘wipe data/factory reset’ and ‘wipe cache Partition’. Select ‘Yes’ on next screen to confirm it.
Step 8. Then, you need to select the ‘install zip from SD card’ and then select ‘choose zip from sdcard’ for browsing into SD card and choose downloaded ROM. Please confirm installation by selecting ‘Yes’ and your ROM will start installing immediately.
Step 9. When ROM installation completes, repeat the above step by replacing ROM with Devil3_0.79_cappy_CFS_BLN_VC_20120618.zip file. Once again repeat the same with gapps-jb-20120715.zip file to flash Google apps package.
Step 10. After, its completion choose ‘+++Go Back+++’ option and then ‘reboot system now’ to reboot your Galaxy S i9000.
Congratulation! CyanogenMod 10 based on Jelly Bean Android 4.1 is now running on your Samsung Captivate i897.
