Amazon Kindle Fire users can now enjoy AOKP Android 4.0.4 IceCream Sandwich. XDA member Stephen.k.spear has introduced a custom built ROM for Kindle Fire. The ROM is based on Android 4.0.4 AOKP ITL41F. ROM is pre-rooted and comes with superuser and Busybox preinstalled. Beside that it will also get you the latest features like 180 degree rotation, CyanogenMod launcher-power menu-Brightness slider. There are lot more of features. We are providing a detailed tutorial to install this ROM on Kindle Fire.
1. You will need a rooted Kindle Fire with TWRP recovery installed. If you have not rooted yet then you can use the Kindle Fire utility 0.9.6.
2. We would suggest you to backup your device as installing ROM is a bit risky and you may lose data. Backup all essential data including apps, settings, contacts, emails, media files etc. Also, create a backup of your ROM using TWRP recovery.
3. Enable USB debugging, if you are running Gingerbread then go to settings>>Applications>>Developer options and enable USB debugging. If you have ICS ROM them go to settings>>Developer options and check the USB debugging box.
4. Charge your device to at-least 60% to avoid interruptions while installing the ROM.
How to install AOKP Android 4.0.4 Otter ROM on Kindle Fire:
Step 1. Connect your Kindle tab to PC and transfer the downloaded ROM file and Google apps zip file to root of your Kindle Fire’s SD Card.
Step 2. Now, disconnect and swich off the device and enter into recovery mode. In the recovery mode, select to Backup ROM and go ahead create backup.
Step 3. Once done select “Go Back” and this time select “Wipe cache/factory reset”. Once the process is complete go ahead and select “Wipe cache partition”. (Not necessary if you are on a AOKP based ROM)
Step 4. Now, you can isntall the ROM. Select “install zip from SD card” and then choose “select zip from SD card”. Select the ROM file using Volume rocker button.
Step 5. It will take few minutes to install the ROM. Once the process complete again select “install zip from Sd card” and this time select the Gapps file.
Step 6. When installation finishes, select “+++Go Back+++” and “Reboot the system”.
Once your Kindle Fire reboots you will get the new boot screen and UI. Go ahead with the initial Android configuration and enjoy the ROM.
